for immediate release

Thousands of Aussie women get real about modeling.

A simple fashion promotion has clearly hit a nerve with Australian women from all over Australia – no matter their age, size or nationality.

The Goldmark Next Real Model competition has exceeded everyone’s expectations. “When we created the concept we set a target of 500 entrants”, said Elizabeth Nichols, manager and creator of the concept. “This would have been very pleasing. Little did we know we would exceed this target within 5 days of starting the competition. “We now have over 2,300 entrants”.

“In developing the concept, we believed that it was time for everybody to be given a go – not just limit it to the size 6, tall, typical model looks. It is something that has come for the fore during the Rosemount Sydney Fashion Week with larger models appearing for the first time. From the comments we have received on our website, this is what the consumers of Australia want to see”, said Ms Nichols.

When asked why they think they should be “Goldmark’s Next Real Model” most entrants comment that it is about time normal looking girls should be featured. They see this competition as their opportunity to show the world how good ‘real’ girls can look. “I think the best thing about this competition is that someone just like me will win, she doesn’t have to be tall and skinny but may have flaws, just like everyone else”, says an entrant.

The competition is unique in that the girls aren’t judged by their looks. They are voted on by their friends, family and general public. This will decide the 10 finalists who will travel to Sydney and the face the judges who will decide the overall winner.

“It is great that that ordinary people vote for us. It means anyone has the opportunity to be in the final. It only depends on how hard your work to get votes. I have set up dedicated social networking sites, had shirts made for my family and friends to encourage strangers to vote for me and I tell everyone I know”, said another entrant. “I believe once I get in front of the judges, I am in with a chance but to go up against over 2000 other entrants it may not have been the case”.

Another entrant, Amanda, said in her entry, “I believe that young girls need a real person as a role model to aspire to. Girls could see me and say she's real and she made it. Rather then looking at a celebrity who has been photo-shopped to the max and feeling bad that they can't look like them. Also there is no real avenue for regional girls to be a model this (competition) could give others something to aspire to”.

Goldmark is very pleased with the outcome of the promotion and want to encourage everyone to vote for their Goldmark Next Real Model. The winner will be featured on a 2010 catalogue as part of their $10,000 prize which is a great opportunity for someone to achieve their dream.

The voting process is easy. All voters need to do is go into a Goldmark store and pick up a voting coupon with the code on it. Then they log into http://www.nextrealmodel.com.au/ and pick the entrant they want to vote for. As an extra incentive to vote, all voters will receive a $10 Goldmark gift voucher.

The finalists will be announced on the 18th September and the “Show Off” event where the winner will be announced will be held at Macarthur Square at 11am on 26th September.
